If the game allows you to really have fun and doesnt limit you in any way. Then RP'ing can be a good time. But, I have yet to really see a game allow the players to create a "toon" in a fashion that truely would make the game a full blown RP'in experiance. Most of the time, its slapping the RP title on a server and aside from that.....your just playing the same cookie cutter characters in the same world, with the same inveriable outcome."

Some mmos games have RP servers that have decent results with chat logs looking like a so-so writter's story being written, the biggest problem is how the new mmorpgs are conceived and the kind of players involved in the game. To make a great roleplaying experience not just the players have to roleplay but the npcs have too and without a GM changing and taking control of them and the world like the old pen and paper games it will be almost impossible in these kind of games. The closest would be participating in a sandbox style of game with a dinamic world, find some likeminded people and form a rp guild... it would be a good enough experience."

"I mostly like casual, lighthearted roleplaying games. This is mostly because so far, my experience with more serious roleplaying is that people develop these completely outrageous personas that they use as an excuse to abuse other players."
